While I personally am not one for reading passages on artwork that seems to be such a personal topic be this passage is a bit different. I am able to relate to a certain type of writing and can easily go through it and not stumble or stay fixated on words that may seem out of place just for the addition of the work. I personally see it as a short presentation and not trying to be elaborate a piece just to impress a certain group of people but for those like me just seeing another point of view for an image that seems close to home or even relatable.

After thoroughly going through the passages by Billy Anania and having to agree with them for most of it there are certain things I am unable to look past or said better truly understand things. I could just be an un-educated college undergrad but while researching I am unable to see the same distinctions they see. To directly quote “the artist’s quiet, resolved expression and relaxed posture suggest less committing a violent act than imagining how corporeal liberation might feel.” Is something I do not see whatsoever, I agree that body dysmorphia must play a big role but I cannot see how a piece such as “Self-Portrait/Cutting (1993)” comes into mind as they are two different feelings and two different ways of looking at oneself.

While the piece is not for everyone as not everyone will see how the artist could do something as “vulgar” to cut a piece of themselves off, it might be a different view if it's not something you saw on yourself, to begin with.
